The year 2022 started with a lot of hope. Covid restrictions had slowly started to ease up and borders were opening up. 2022 was an eventful year with lots of beautiful memories. I’d decided to write throwback stories every year and here is the one for 2022.

Personal Life

  • I finally got married to the love of my life and we had a memorable wedding ceremony in Bali, Indonesia. We also had a chance to visit my hometown in Kerala, India to do a reception and meet all my family and friends.

  • I finally completed all the work on my new house in my hometown. It was a 3-year long commitment and now got a place to call my own home.
Home sweet home
  • I visited two new countries in 2022. I got the chance to visit Indonesia because that’s my wife’s home country and we held our wedding ceremony there. I visited Cambodia because I wanted to see the mighty Angkor Wat temple. Also, Cambodia is a neighboring country to Thailand and is only a few hours away by flight.

Work

  • I got promoted to a Staff Software Engineer in Agoda, and somewhere in the middle of the year, I started to sense a paradigm shift in my mindset from an Individual Contributor to more of a Technical Lead. As of now, the work is more involving leadership tasks like mentoring junior engineers, more cross-team communication, project management, increasing my influence, etc and I’m still figuring out what works best for me. I realized I would need to put extra effort outside of work to keep myself updated with the latest technologies.

Hobbies

  • I wrote 11 Medium articles and have around 400+ followers as of now. I will keep up with my writing skills and write more relevant content since I’ve built a small audience. Here’s my medium profile:
  • I wanted to be a mentor on a public platform and I first tried signing up on scaler.com but the process took too long and I didn't pursue it further. I recently applied to adplist.org and now finally got enrolled there as a mentor and did a few mentoring sessions.
  • I recently got back at solving algorithm problems on Leetcode and it’s now stuck as a hobby. I did 3 coding contests and completed 2 monthly daily challenges so far.

Not everything was colorful as it looked. There were a couple of downsides as well and one important thing I overlooked in the last year was my health and I’ve promised myself to keep it as my first priority this year.
I’ve already made a list of things I want to achieve this year and I’m hopeful for an amazing year ahead.

I wish you all a wonderful year ahead.😊🥳
